Saturday we were in Mohacs, Hungary and I took a tour of Pecs. During the bus ride we learned some history. We learned about the 1526 battle against the Ottomans and some of the 94 items unique to Hungary. We started at the Pecs Cathedral and the sandstone Apostles from the 1800's.
The Cathedral was started in 1009, updated in the 12th century with 4 towers, almost destroyed by the Turkish occupation it was rebuilt from 1882-1891.
On the inside there are over 1600 human figures, 33 kinds of marble and 20 pounds of Gold. The Organ has over 6400 pipes with the largest 1000 times bigger than the smallest.
In 1991 John Paul II declared it a Basilica Minor.
We continued to the Cella Septichora, a UNESCO ancient Christian burial site.
There was time to shop at Szechenyl Square before we returned to the ship.
